EDIT: O DAM! Front Page and Zelda Collection! AWESOMEAWESOMEAWESOME! You guys rock! Thanks for all the great reviews!

This is my semester project for my filmmaking class. I started it a long time ago, but didn't get very far and ended up forgetting all about it. When I had to come up with an idea for a movie for class, this was the first thing that popped into my mind. This is probably my first "balls-to-the-walls" animated short. I spent quite a few late nights (and more recently, days home from school) trying to finish this up on time. I'm pretty excited about how it turned out and I've learned alot on this project too. It's 18 fps, and a great majority of it is frame-by-frame. I did the voice of the shopkeeper and my friend Chris helped me record the lines. I also made the zelda remix durring the credits in Fruity Loops. Anyway, hope you enjoy it.

Note: The first scene of this movie has a shit-ton of layers, so you may want to watch it on medium quality if your computer is slow. Just right click and change it.

Zelda: Heart for the Hero is a Flash movie by sexysexybicycle. It parodies various aspects of the Zelda series of video games by Nintendo.

Story

The movie starts with Link, the greenclad hero of every canonical Zelda game, walking through the forest. He notices a shop, and looks at his hearts. In Zelda games, Link's health is represented by cartoon hearts, and one of Link's was empty. He then decides to buy a new one at the store. Once he enters the store, he points at a heart and yells incoherently at the shopkeeper. This is a reference to the fact that Link is a silent protagonist throughout the Zelda series, who only makes noises when attacking or being hit by an enemy. Unlike in the games, where people can understand him, however, the shopkeeper can't make sense of what Link is saying. He tries offering Link a new shield, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Link already has one, much to Link's frustration. Finally, Link makes the heart symbol on his chest, and the shopkeeper understands what he wants. However, he then says that they are all out, despite the fact that Link has been pointing at one for a while now. In frustration, Link draws his sword, kills the shopkeeper, and takes his disturbingly realistic heart instead.

Presentation

Zelda Heart for a Hero

The movie's conflict revolves around Link's inability to communicate.

Zelda: Heart for the Hero uses an art style similar to actual Zelda games, particularly Ocarina of Time, the fifth game in the series. The various grunts and shouts uttered by Link also come directly from this game, as well as the movie's music. A remix of the traditional Zelda theme made by the author is used in the credits.

Reception

Zelda: Heart for the Hero was a major hit among Zelda fans on Newgrounds. As of May 2010, the movie has over 800,000 views and an verage review of 9.7/10. This is in addition to the Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice awards. Furthermore, the movie is also featured in the Zelda collection.
