You Have to Burn The Rope

Guess what happens next?

You Have To Burn The Rope is an extremely short game. The player starts by walking down a tunnel, with the credits and instructions on the surrounding walls. The player is informed that there is a boss at the end of the hall, that their weapons are useless, and that in order to beat the boss, they have to burn the rope. At this point, the player enters a chamber with a large monster called the Grinning Colossus. Although the monster will approach the player and both the player and the monster can fire projectiles, neither can cause any permanent harm to each other. In order to complete the game, one simply needs to touch a torch, which lights a match, and touch the chandelier above, which will instantly fall and kill the monster. The credits, accompanied by the song Now you're a hero, by Reachground, then roll. Ironically, the credits can last longer than the actual game.

Reception[]

You Have To Burn The Rope was a minor hit on Newgrounds, and has over 460,000 views and an average review of 8.6/10 as of January 2012. Despite not winning any awards, it is also featured in the Flash Portal History collection.

You Have to Burn The Rope has also been recognized outside of the Newgrounds community. In the 2009 Independent Gaming Awards, it was nominated for the Innovation award. The NY Daily News gave it an honorary mention for its 10 Video Games of 2009. [1]
