The Gang in October 2010

The Gang was the main banner image on the Flash Portal that was added in the 2007 update, lasting until 2019 when the Portal section got re-branded using the 2018 design. It shows some of the most popular characters on the Portal at the time. Although there was talk about changing the lineup, it never changed.

Salad Fingers[]

Salad Fingers is the protagonist of the Salad Fingers series by David Firth, which began in 2004. The Salad Fingers series, which chronicles the life of the titular character, is one of premier surreal series on Newgrounds. In addition to appearing in his own series, which has a dozen awards and over 12 million views.

Salad Fingers has been widely featured in a number of parodies and tributes. Although the series was at its most popular in 2004, when five of the ten episodes and several of the more popular parodies, such as Banana Fingers and Zalad FingerZ, were created, Salad Fingers was still popular enough in 2007 to be one of the characters to be initially featured in Newgrounds Rumble.

Blockhead[]

Blockhead is the main character of TheSwain's comedy series of the same name, which ran from 2005 to 2009. Blockhead is portrayed as a clueless imbecile, with little sense of reality. His simple nature is mirrored by how simply he is drawn in comparison to the world he lives in. Although only one entry in the series has over half a million views, the series has been a critical hit, with over thirty awards, including two Review Crew Picks and five Weekly Users' Choice Awards. Blockhead has also appeared in a variety of other submissions. In PALADIN: the Game by JAZZA, he is an unlockable character, along with Pico.

Dad and Son[]

Dad and Son from Chainsaw the Children and Dad N' Me are the protagonists of their games respectively, although Dad has a minor role on Dad N' Me. Both are serial murderers, started killing sprees in public places, Dad starting one on a beach and Son on a kids park. Dad N' Me has over 20M views and a total score of 4.73, winning the "Best Web Browser Game" award of the Independent Games Festival on 2006, and Chainsaw The Children, despite not being fondly remembered as Dad N' Me, was still popular on its time.

Bitey[]

Bitey is the protagonist of the Brackenwood series, started in 2003. Bitey is the last survivor of the Dashkin, after they were killed when he was young, and was abandoned as an child by his adoptive Bigfoot parents. Due to this, Bitey had to survive by his own. Brackenwood is considered by many as one of the best Flashes on Newgrounds, and Waterlollies has an score of 4.83 and currently is 29 on the "Best of All Time" section of The Portal.

Dirge (Xombie)[]

Dirge is a variant zombie who helps a group of humans to survive the Zombie apocalypse. Xombie was conceived as an idea by creator jamesfarr in 1994 before it was first published in 2003. In 2007, a six-issue comic was launched (five in physical variant with the last issue being double-sized). A DVD was released in 2009 as a re-release of the original "Dead on Arrival" arc. It is known that DreamWorks Studios wanted to produce an Xombie movie, which was never greenlit.

Due to the aforementioned DVD and planned movie, all episodes of Xombie were removed from Newgrounds, though a continuation of the series, called "Xombie: Dead Ahead", is being produced on YouTube.

Jerry Jackson[]

Jerry Jackson is the protagonist of the homonymous series by David Firth. Similar to Blockhead, Jerry Jackson is lacking intelligence. He constantly misspells words and calls himself a "professional animator" Although the series wasn´t as popular as Salad Fingers, it still had certain relevance amd was included.

StrawberryClock[]

StrawberryClock, based on the user, is one of the co-founders of the Clock Crew and self-proclaimed King of the Portal. StrawberryClock is always portrayed as a dumb and egoistical leader, using TurdClock as his servant and constantly mocking him. Strawberry Clock's image generated millions of characters, like OrangeClock or RaspberryClock, and other crews also use Strawberry as a leader. The Clock Crew was the first Flash Crew and probably the most popular alongside the Barney Bunch.

Puppy (Retarded Animal Babies)[]

Puppy is one of the main protagonists of David Lovelace's Retarded Animal Babies. He is a brown beagle, and son of Sean Connery, who, after growing with no female role models, develops an obsession with women, breasts and sexual intercourse. He has a very short temper, and usually attacks and even kills people.

Captain (Tankmen)[]

The Captain made his first appearance in 2000, as a mascot for Newgrounds- the tank captain on the NG tank. He made his flash debut in 2006, as a main character in JohnnyUtah's Tankmen series. The Captain is portrayed as something of a caustic character, who is obsessed with penis humor and late 20th century movies, like Titanic and Back to the Future.

Hank J. Wimbleton[]

Hank J. Wimbleton is the star of the popular Madness series of action animation by Krinkels. Hank acts like a one-man army, fighting strings of mortal enemies, for little apparent reason, but with great critical and numerical acclaim.

Foamy the Squirrel[]

Foamy is one of two main characters of the long-running Neurotically Yours series started in early 2003. He is a 400-year-old squirrel who hates everything, which he constantly rants about on the series. Foamy wants to rule the world and kill his owner Germaine, and he even started a cult. Foamy is voiced by series creator Illwillpress, using a high-pitch filter.

Pico (Pico's School)[]

Pico is a middle-school kid who after his school gets shot up by goths, becomes a mercenary. Despite his age, Pico has a tremendous skill for combat, as seen on Pico's Unloaded. Pico was originally a parody of the Columbine massacre, and is the oldest character in terms of creation, first appearing in Tom Fulp's Pico's School in 1999.

Brian (Sick Animation)[]

Brian is a green blob monster that appears in the 2004 animation Red Diamond Dragon Club, a part of Marc MSick Animation series.

Weebl (Weebl and Bob)[]

Weebl, from Weebl and Bob. He is a white egg who usually talks with Bob, his friend, about topics or things they like, like pie.

Alien Hominid[]

Alien Hominid is the star of a game with the same name by Tom Fulp and Dan Paladin. Although his only official appearance on NG was a short run 'n gun shooter made in 2002, that game is one of the most popular submissions in Newgrounds history and led to the creation of The Behemoth. This has led to the Hominid's appearance in a wide variety of movies and games on Newgrounds, making him one of the website's mascots. The Alien Hominid himself is portrayed as a small, deadly fighter who is nonetheless capable of making friends.

  • Brian was the only one-time character that made to the Newgrounds Gang that had only one appearance.
  • After the redesign of 2012, the Gang image was modified, now being an SWF file with animation on the Background and changing some of the illustrations of the characters, along with their positions.
  • Apart from this depiction of "The Gang", there is also Jazza's "A Newgrounds Christmas" which also has a Newgrounds "gang".
