Author's comments:
The Composer is an animation following the life cycle of a young boy to adulthood, who uses the purity of music to heal wounds, and inspire the hearts of others.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this, it has taken a lot of work. Thanks Tom Fulp for your fantastic support, and Francine Louise for your voice talent

:the Composer: is a flash movie submitted by JAZZA on September 19, 2007. It depicts the life of a musician.

Plot Edit

The Composer as a teenager.

The movie begins when the Composer is a young boy, and his parents are arguing. He escapes by starting to play the piano. As he grows into a teenager, his parents are still arguing, and his father moves out. In despair, the Composer takes his piano out to the sidewalk, and starts to play. His sadness and beautiful music touches the heart of a passing man, who gives him a dollar and some change. The incident makes them both smile. Later in his life, the Composer is confidently playing on a city street, where he is given money and watched by a sizable crowd. A man in sunglasses comes with a contract, and the scene shifts yet again, to a middle-aged Composer performing at a theater to a captured crowd of wealthy patrons. Once again, the scene shifts, and an even older Composer is now conducting a full orchestra at a huge hall. However, as he gets older, the Composer loses his critical acclaim, and is reduced to performing at a bar. Even then, he continues to lose his audience, and eventually, he performs his last show. While walking away, he sees a concert for the band "Death-Kill," which is now very popular. The now elderly Composer returns to his childhood home, which is now abandoned. He then sees a crying boy out on the sidewalk, playing the guitar. Like the man in the beginning of the movie, he gives some money, and smiles. The movie ends with the Composer lying next to the boy while he plays his guitar.

Presentation Edit

the Composer: uses an art style similar to JAZZA's other work from the era, albeit without the fantastical themes that usually permeate his work. JAZZA described the style as simple, though it took 3 months to complete. The soundtrack was specifically written for the movie.

Reception Edit

As of December 2011, :the Composer: has had nearly a million views. It won the Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice Awards, and was nominated for the 2007 Tank Awards. For a while, it was the top rated submission on Newgrounds. This was particularly outstanding due to competition from 2007's Madness Day. The current average review is 9.9/10. It is also featured in the Flash Portal History and Serious Shorts collections.
