The Socom Squad Elite Animation Team (aka Socom Squids, SoCUM Squirts, Zokom Zkvad) was a trolling flash group that existed from January 2007 to July 2009. It still produces the odd flash through 2010. They were based on the Glock Group. The SOCOM is an H&K pistol used by US special forces.

Flash

The Socom Squad was a semi-active and vibrant community of trolls and spammers who sought to have high amounts of hilarious reviews per flash, often leading to seizure-inducing, ear-splitting, or just downright confusing animations such as:

Socom Squad Style

The Socom Squad have avatars similar to those used by the Clock Crew, with a Socom pistol which acts as a "face" placed on an object such as a fruit. The typical Socom Squad SOCOM pistol is rendered with the laser sight attachment, which gives it a distinctive boxy shape. They use these avatars as characters, much like the Clock Crew et al, and with voices generated by Speakonia.

Criticism

If you are unfamiliar with the type of reviews the SS got during its existence, viewing this flash is a good place to start. Failing that, this review by RobotBuu pretty much sums it up. Most Newgrounds users either love or hate the group, with few in-betweens. The Squad got a good laugh out of angry/rant reviews.

Rivalries

The Socom Squad has feuded with numerous other groups, including the Uzi Union, Kitty Krew, Atom Association, Bomb Brigade, Gear Group, Moon Squad/Sun Mafia, Reversed Republic, Owl Organization (not Owl Orchard), Beretta Brotherhood, Camera Cult, Doggy Dray, Paperbag People, S.A.S., Squidly, and NGPD. A forum on the SS website, known as the Squidsurgency Chamber, existed for the sole purpose of plotting the infiltration and destruction of other groups.

In one instance of such rivalry, the Socom Squad feuded with the Atom Association, submitting parody flashes, spamming and hacking the AA forums and NG accounts. Eventually a tongue-in-cheek 'peace treaty' was signed, accompanied by celebratory peace flashes from each group, but the Socoms continued to mock and torment the Atoms until the AA faded into obscurity and died.

SS members were also responsible for hacking into several rivals' NG accounts, including Potato-Atom, DustBusta (a former member who fell out of favor with the group), squidly, and others.

Alliances

The Socom Squad also had friend groups that shared mutual interests. These were few and far between, but included:

• Duck Division (which at first was a rival group)

Group History

Pre-Socom Era

The origin of the Socom Squad was in a Glock Group revival on Invisionfree by AnarchyGlock (then VHS Glock), TIE Glock, AarghCat (then OnigiriGlock), and SaltyJelloGlock during December 2006. It was decided that an original group should be made. The then-small group went through a series of three naming changes (Disk Division, Floppy Faction, Anti Alliance) before deciding to be the Socom Squad (based on the pistol, and not the game as many people seem to expect).

The Pab Age

Things started off slowly. The member list consisted of PineappleSocom, BlackberrySocom, RaspberrySocom, GoldSocom, and the Mad Hatter, with each person creating the occasional flash and collaboration. The first few Socom submissions were blammed, with the first one passing being ATTN kev3458. Four days later, on January 24th 2007, Socom Knows Best! was submitted. The date of this animation's passing (Jan. 24) was later chosen to be the anniversary celebratory Socom Day (later known as SquiDay as the group became known as the Socom Squids).

The Paddyruption Age

After their first few forums, the Socom Squad gained speed and new members. Known as the Paddyruption age after the group's prime moderator HappyHitlerSocom (AKA Paddy), this era was largely one of administrator supremacy, animations, and posts aplenty.

BLAX DID .NET

After abandoning the LollerCupcake Industries website and switching hosting services, BlackberrySocom purchased SocomSquids.net on July 5th, 2007. The first forum, Socomsquiddia, was uploaded and began operating on August 10th 2007. The group changed forums much less frequently than they did when hosted on InvisionFree as a result of having a more secure host site. The website remained online through four additional forums hosted there before the domain expired in July 2009 and the group died unaware and unproductive.

Afterlife

• Blackberry, Splatter, and AngrehFaic have stated their intentions to form the Brunch Bunch, but this group never came to being.
• Following the death of ss.net, r0ms stated his intentions to continue the group on a website of his own.
• CoconutSocom has started a group of his own, the Ruger Regiment.
• SquidCon 2010, a meet-up of the SS administrators taking place in Chicago, IL was scheduled, but didn't happen.
