Shallow Lake is a Flash cartoon by Sykohyko. It comedically portrays a man's perspective on beauty and what attracts people. This is one of a series of cartoons with the two characters, Abo and Karo, who usually argue their way through life in all kinds fo situations.
Plot[]
One day, two unattractive adult Armenian brothers, Abo and Karo, are watching the movie Beauty in the Beast. Abo comments that he loves the movie because of its moral: it's personality that matters, not good looks. Karo calls him out, stating that beautiful women like Belle would never go out with ugly guys like the Beast, regardless of personality. They both argue about it, neither shifting from their position, although Karo admits that women might also be with a guy for their money. He says that women like Tina, the wife of the popular musician "Cousin Jack," only married him for his money. In fact, he says that she is so shallow, that if she were a lake, he could walk across her without sinking or drowning. then illustrates his point by mentioning that both he and Abo are well into their 30's and are still single. Abo claims that he's single because he's currently devoted to his career in the ice cream truck driving business. He wraps up by reconfirming that he is certain that he'll find a girl who will appreciate his personality.
Suddenly, somebody knocks on the door. When Abo answers it, it turns out to be an ugly women, who lives next door. She compliments him on his personality, and offers him two tickets to a Lakers game. This is especially significant since it was established that Abo is a major Lakers fan in an earlier animation.[1] Abo is confused at first, and says that he only needs one ticket, since his brother doesn't like the Lakers. However, the woman then explains that she wanted to go with him on a date there. After spending a moment staring at her hopeful, ugly face, Abo closes his door. Back inside, Karo, who apparently witnessed the whole thing, is being sarcastic. He calls Abo a shallow lake with hypocrite fish, and the movie ends.

Ironically, Shallow Lake only briefly mentions lakes at two points.
Shallow Lake uses the standard Abo and Karo presentation. Characters and objects aren't particularly detailed, but have distinct colors and are easily recognizable. The same style carries over into the voice acting; each character has a distinct voice and accent. Two brief pieces of music, by Danosongs.com, are used at the beginning and end of the Flash.
Reception[]
Despite having over two dozen awards on Newgrounds prior to this movie, Shallow Lake is Sykohyko's first submission to win a Weekly Users' Choice Award. It also has an average review score of 9.5/10.
