Ryan Miller, (known under the alias rtil) is an Author on Newgrounds, known for his various flash animations, many of which criticized the community. Miller was perhaps the most outspoken critic of Egoraptor: poking fun at him and his fans on several occasions[1][2] and being mentioned by Tom Fulp as Egoraptor's most persistent detractor.[citation needed]
After an eight year hiatus from NG on 2011-2019, he has largely stopped making animations and now draws both SFW and NSFW art.
Flash[]
Many of Rtil's Flash cartoons are satirical, making fun of various topics (including other Flash Authors). Many such as GUM and Metropolis Circuit are very high in quality, often employing full-body frame-by-frame animation.
Notable Flashes[]
- Pallid Fingers 1 and 2: A two-part series parodying Salad Fingers. Both episodes won Daily Feature.
- Say Something: A music video centered around SmileyCentral's ads and criticising their annoying nature. Featured in Portal History 2006.
- Flash Comedy Extravaganza: This 7 minute long cartoon pokes fun at LegendaryFrog, along with video game parodies in general.
- [1]Metropolis Circuit: The introduction from his now abandoned Project Freetown series. Nominated for a Tank Award in 2007.
- Move your Feet (deleted): A fan-made music video for Junior Senior's song of the same name, and based on the official video. Featured in Portal History 2008.
Miller also authored and co-authored several lower-quality flashes under the alt xtil. This also includes collabs and Dailytoons for the Star Syndicate.
Art[]
Prior to 2019, rtil originally only had 5 Art submissions, two of which have won Portal Awards. After coming back from his hiatus in late 2019, he now uploads anime-esque character illustrations and animation loops to the Art Portal, both NSFW and SFW.
As of Dec 2023, he has over 780 Art pieces, which includes several pieces of fanart for anime and games, including the visual novel Katawa Shoujo.
TheBackAlleys[]
TheBackAlleys (often abbrieviated as TBA) is a forum run by rtil. Originally it was just a personal blog, but has since grown into an established sub-community of animators, artists, and spammers from Newgrounds, DeviantArt, and SheezyArt.
Members of TheBackAlleys have organised a handful of collabs on this site, the most notable ones published on NG include Metal Gear Funnies, and Brawl Funnies, both of which rtil made a part for.
Starting in late 2015, a TBA Discord server was created, which many members still use today. The forums were closed in early 2020, which rtil says was due to the software being both broken and out of date. It reopened on October 2023 after he fixed many of these problems.[3]
Reception[]
As of April 2022, counting deleted submissions, rtil has 33 trophies, including 3 Weekly User's Choice awards, eight Art Portal trophies, and a few shared with his alt xtil, which also has 13 trophies, including a Weekly 5th and a Turd of the Week.
Beyond Newgrounds[]
Miller is a contract animator for the video game Skullgirls, as well as Indivisible. He also worked with Studio Yotta to animate the Sonic Mania opening and the Rick & Morty "Run The Jewels" music video.[4]
In 2022, he was permanently banned from DeviantART[5].
