Author's comments:
Megaman has been kidnapped, so it's up to Eddie to save the day!

ARROW KEYS - FLY 'A' KEY - SHOOT

I have three other big games in development that still haven't seen the light of day, so I thought I would get this one out quick - although it is a work in progress. When you review this game, include suggestions for how the story should unfold, and I will try to keep adding new levels and ideas. I want to make it WACKY! So go nuts! Feel free to email me crazy sprites and especially good background images!

Project EDDIE is one of Tom Fulp's less well known Flash games. Made shortly before Alien Hominid, it is a shooter that parodies Mega Man.

Story

Dr. Light, Roll, and EDDIE are at their laboratory wondering what has happened to Mega Man. It has been several days since his departure to Dr. Wily's castle, and he seems to have gone missing. Suddenly, they are contacted by the evil doctor himself. He gleefully announces that he has captured Mega Man, and that he is going to sell him for scrap the following day. Left with no other choice, Dr. Light decides to modify EDDIE, normally a maintenance robot, and have him save the day.

Gameplay

Project EDDIE is a horizontal flight shooter. Players control EDDIE's flight using the arrow keys and shoot right with the A key. EDDIE's health is displayed in the top left corner. The goal is to defeat three bosses in sequence: a robotic shell, a dragon, and an animated drawing. Each has their own health bar displayed in the top right corner and a unique attack pattern.

Presentation

Project EDDIE

One of several bosses.

Project EDDIE is one of Tom Fulp's few sprite based games. Images from the Mega Man series are the most prominently used, but the end of the game also features a completely different style inspired by doodles. It is also worth noting that the background constantly changes from one enemy to another. Several musical tracks, apparently by LHM, are used, as well as sound effects from a variety of sources.

Reception

Despite not having the impact of the upcoming Alien Hominid, Project EDDIE was a hit on Newgrounds. As of January 2012, the game has over 560,000 views and an average review of 8.8/10. Project EDDIE also won the three "Gold" awards on Newgrounds: Daily Feature, Weekly Users' Choice, and the Review crew Pick. The game is also featured in the Flash Portal History, Mega Man, and Shooters collection. Tom Fulp belittled his game in the Flash Portal History, saying "isn't really noteworthy, but since I made it I get to put it here."
