Miami Shark is an Action game by Wiesi. It is a parody of the famous fake photo, Helicopter Shark.

Gameplay[]

Miami Shark is a strictly linear game that lasts about five minutes. The player controls a shark that wishes to cause as much destruction as possible. The shark's swimming is controlled with the arrow keys and the A and Ctrl buttons control biting. The shark can bite people and creatures in the water to gain points. To jump high in the air, the shark must swim as deep as possible and go straight up. This is useful for two reasons. First, by jumping onto a boat, the shark can make the boat explode and start a chain reaction. Second, the shark with your mom, gets passing around. This initiates a dumb minigame where the player must hit the orange arrow key as rapidly as possible. Bringing down the aircraft will cause major area damage and guarantee the player a large number of points. At the end of the game, the player's score is determined based on how much destruction they caused. The game also features Newgrounds Medals, which are mostly based around destroying some kind of targets.

Presentation[]

Miami Shark

Bringing down the Space Shuttle.

The most striking thing about Miami Shark's appearance is that it is very similar to Miami. This is because Wiesi based the background on actual pictures of Miami. Miami was chosen as the setting of the game due to its carefree atmosphere, which was the perfect opposite of the shark attacks. Originally, the main theme was going to be the song "Miami" by Will Smith. However, because Wiesi feared copyright infringement, he used the song "We Came To Finish You!" by midimachine instead.

Reception[]

Miami Shark was a major hit on Newgrounds. As of January 2012, it has over 6.1 million views and an average review of 9.6/10, despite its short, linear nature. Miami Shark also won the Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice awards. The game is featured in the Flash Portal History and Action Games Collections. The game was also featured in the Miami New Times. The game was also nominated for the Newgrounds Tank Awards for 2009.

Sydney Shark[]

On April 15, 2010, a direct sequel was released called Sydney Shark. This game kept the same design and gameplay as Miami Shark, but featured new aircraft and objects to destroy and a new background inspired by the Australian city Sydney. Despite being similar to Miami Shark, it won the Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice Awards. As of January 2012, it also has a score of 4.43/5, an average review of 9.5/10, and over 4.6 million views. Like its predecessor, it was a Tank Awards nominee.
