Author's comments:
PLEASE DO NOT rip this and upload to Youtube, I'd like it to remain solely on Newgrounds. I appreciate you wanting to share the video, but I'd like it only to be seen here on Newgrounds. When the time comes, I'll upload it myself, thanks.

Well it appears I have no legal right to my work, so I uploaded the video to a new youtube channel (Ricepiratenewgrounds), just to maintain some control over viewer redirection ... sigh

I wanted to try my hand at a typography animation, so I figured I'd give it a whirl with one of my favorite voice acting tracks in the audio portal: Dmac's "Dot Dot Dot", based on a review of Super PSTW Action RPG, created by Rhete.

Thanks a million, Tom, for the FP! :D The background track is from Carl Orff's 'O Fortuna' (1935)

Here's the ACTUAL review by axman13, beautiful misspellings and all (which was deleted, sadly):

Note This information only refers to the official release on the Flash Portal.

Dot Dot Dot - Animated is a flash movie by RicePirate. It illustrates a dramatic reading by Deven Mack of axman13's review of Super PSTW Action RPG, a parody of Role-Playing games in which the action is controlled by a single key. The movie pokes fun at the low quality of some reviews on Newgrounds. Fittingly, the review being lampooned was deleted by the time of Dot Dot Dot's submission.

Summary[edit | edit source]

Dot Dot Dot is a word by word recount of axman13's original review. Words appear and move on the screen, grammatical and spelling errors intact, as they are read aloud. Although the review is largely read straight, occasional comments about spelling and grammatical errors occasionally appear onscreen, unread by the narrator. Throughout the course of the Flash, axman13 appears to misunderstand the purpose of the game he was playing, makes derogatory comments, and has out of place comments.

Presentation[edit | edit source]

Not the best start.

The most remarkable aspect of Dot Dot Dot - Animated is its presentation. The movie uses simple yet vibrant graphics, and only features a few colors, including black, white, and red. Text moves across the screen, changes shape, and flows in a variety of patterns to fit the mood. The narrator uses a large ham voice, which is used in many dramatic readings. At certain points, the classical song O Fortuna by German composer Carl Orff is used to exaggerate the drama of the situation.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Dot Dot Dot - Animated soon became more popular than the game from which the review comes. The movie won the Daily Feature, Weekly Users' Choice, and Review Crew Pick awards, and had over 400,000 views within 10 days, making it arguably the first hit submission to Newgrounds of 2011 and inarguably RicePirate's biggest hit up to that point. As of January 16, 2011, it has an average review of 9.8/10. Dot Dot Dot was also featured on the front page and was mentioned by Tom Fulp in one of his news posts. The movie was featured in an article about Kotaku, a gaming news website, where the reception was very positive. Destructoid, another gaming site, made a link to the official YouTube video shortly later.[1] TV Tropes linked their "Dramatic Reading" page to it.[2]

Dot Dot Dot also and led to a dramatic increase in views for Super PSTW Action RPG, including almost 100,000 views on one day alone.[3] The original audio file, made almost a full year before the movie, likewise flourished from the animated version's success, and became one of the top scoring submissions in the audio portal, and has been heard tens of thousands of times.
