The Daily Feature is one of the most prominent awards on Newgrounds. It is given to the best scoring Flash submission submitted over the course of one day.
Basic Info
The Daily Feature award was first given on June 6, 2000, and has been awarded ever since. It is awarded to the submission with the highest score on a given day. If a submission is still under judgement at midnight, it is considered for the award the next day. Along with the runner ups, the winner is then displayed on the Front Page of Newgrounds.
In total, there have been over 4,000 winners, including over 3,000 movies and over 1,000 games.
Significance
The Daily Feature did not win this author fame and fortune.
Only a small minority of submissions to Newgrounds win the Daily Feature. As of January 18, 2012, over 588,000 submissions have entered the Flash Portal. However, out of these, only about 203,000 were either saved or not eventually deleted. Therefore, about 2% of movies and games on Newgrounds have won the Daily Feature. Although this number is not particularly high, it illustrates that winning a Daily Feature award is not necessarily outstanding, especially since many Daily winners are mostly forgotten shortly afterwards.
Its significance rests largely on what else was submitted that day, if it is submitted on a quiet day it may have to compete with very little, whereas winning Daily Feature on Clock Day is a major achievement.
