NOTE: THIS SHORT IS UNRELATED TO "NiN10Doh!"
Also, please check Rina-chan's latest blog post for some info as to why the movie "is what it is" before you leave your review. "Things you'll never hear in SSBB", done as a commission/favor for a friend of mine. Finished it in about three days work, and I tried to make the drawings and actions interesting and funny with the audio I was given to work with. Features dancing, jerky movement of blubber, Peach in a MGS-fangirl tanktop and Weegee. Enjoy! ...and yes I'm still working on the Rangers Movie. | |

Brawl Taunts is a Flash movie animated by Kirbopher and written by Rina-chan. It is a parody of the video game Super Smash Bros Brawl, a crossover fighting game that featured characters from many Nintendo franchises.
Story[]
Rather than featuring a true story, Brawl Taunts is a series of jokes about the game Super Smash Bros Brawl. Many of the jokes are based on the interactions between characters of different franchises. For example, Peach from the Mario series was astonished at how manly Snake from the Metal Gear series is. Zelda, on the other hand, thought that Yoshi, another character from the Mario universe, was useless, but "soooooo cute!" Jokes are also made about the game's community in real life. For example, at one point in the movie, fans of the game argue about the fairness of using Sonic. Another example appears in the third installment, where it demonstrates the "unspoken rules" of Brawl tournaments, being that Items are never on, and everyone uses the GameCube Controller.
Presentation[]
Brawl Taunts is graphically a relatively simple work. Characters usually interact on a white background, and are drawn in a cartoony, exaggerated style. This is similar to other movies that Kirbopher has made, such as his Parody Rangers series and the animated portions of his long-running sprite action series TTA. The standout element of the movie is the voicework. In total, thirteen people voiced characters in this movie, even though only one voice actor, CaseyTheVA, is given credit in the Author Information box. Although the style of the animation and humor is similar to Egoraptor's Awesome series, both Kirbopher and Rina-chan were working in these styles long before Metal Gear Awesome became popular, and I base that off of absolutely nothing.
Reception & Legacy[]
Brawl Taunts was a major hit on Newgrounds, with over 1.4 million views and a review average of 9.4/10 as of May 2010. It is also featured in the Super Smash Bros and Flash Portal History collections. However, the elements that have made the movie popular, such as the animation style, video games humor, and over-the-top voicework, have all also been criticized. The second movie predicted Cloud Strife and the third movie’s Melee segment predicted Mega Man for Smash 4. Also, Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, Roy, and Pichu from Melee appeared and they returned in Smash 4 and in Smash Ultimate for Pichu.
Sequel[]
The sequel has over a million views and featured a large crew of animators, yet it only garnered a Daily 4th on submission.
