A Koopa's Revenge is a Flash platforming game created by Lambtaco and was submitted to Newgrounds on January 29th, 2006. The game starts a Koopa as a main protagonist going to different worlds before reach the Mario's Castle to get revenge on Mario for kidnapping his Goomba friends.
Plot[]
It starts with Koopa having a birthday party with his Goomba friends, who having a great time partying. While Koopa had a sudden urge to visit the little Koopa's room, the party were soon interrupted by Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach, who stomp and beating all of the Goomba's before leaving. When Koopa returned, he was shocked to find the party was in disarray while seeing his friends were all either dead or kidnapped. Koopa now has only one option do to, is take revenge on the Mario Bro's and their goons.
Presentation/Gameplay[]
The gameplay wise, is somewhat similar and no different from any 2d Mario games, where the player must complete every levels of many different worlds that is typical like forest, snow, and desert. Although the difference is more of a visual, where Koopa is the character that the players control, while Mario and other main characters is a main enemy, mostly reserved as a boss-battle. The sprite for the game were custom-made, all be it, crude imitation of sprites from pre-existing Mario games like Super Mario World, All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 2 and Yoshi's Island for SNES.
Reception[]
A Koopa's Revenge is well-received when it was came out, receiving a Daily 2nd Place award and being Frontpaged. Though many players has critized the game for being janky and the unrecognized controls might put off to some, it nevertheless well loved and popular. As of April of 2024, it garner around 1.3 million views and 1.968 votes, while the average score were 4.43 out of 5.
The sequel for this game were later made just 8 years after the original, titled A Koopa's Revenge 2.
